Fields Report
Three popular majors that relate to computers and their systems are Information Technology, Computer Science, and Software Engineering. These three fields have several similarities but are still vastly different. The way I like to look at it is that the three are related to a certain extent. Information Technology requires the knowledge of more or less installing and maintaining the software. Computer Science helps to create the programs, and Software Engineering is the broadest of the three. Software Engineers had the widest knowledge of basically a mix of the other two fields. More specifically, IT degrees can be earned with a two or four-year program and the potential jobs include network architecture, information security, and computer support to name a few. The jobs that can be obtained with an IT major may still need a basic knowledge in the Computer Science field. CS degrees take four years to acquire and focus on making a computer do something. It involves how computers work and how different software’s and programming languages work. Software Engineering on the actual design of a software. They work with creating complex applications, testing them, and deploying them.
There are many jobs around the world that have to do with Computer Science. One job would be a Computer and Information Research Scientist. Basically, this job requires researching new ways to improve the already existent technology. That includes solving complex problems to help find new and more efficient ways of doing things in the Computer Science field. It is related to CS in the problem solving and programming aspect. They take the current strategies and research ways to make them better. Another would be an Information Security Analyst. They create and apply security procedures to protect computer networks. In doing so, it involves using Computer Science knowledge to create programs that can encrypt files and create firewalls for a company. A third option would be a Software Developer who has the knowledge of creating the computer program. The programs they write would include one that runs devices or controls networks. Knowledge in the CS field is required to know how to write the programs and know what needs to be done to create a successful program.
Of the three field’s I previously discussed, the one that interests me the most would be a Software Developer. Being able to let my mind run wild and have the freedom to create a program is something that greatly interests me. Having the opportunity to use my imagination and create a beneficial program that could be used by many would be something that I would appreciate being a part of.
